Know Your Worth

Winter is coming – no this isn’t an ode to Game of Thrones. But really, winter is coming. Along with cold weather and holidays sometimes comes feelings of fullness and loneliness, all within the same breath.

Cold weather means spending time inside, cozying up with a kiddo (except not me because my kids are like little furnaces and radiate way too much body heat), flipping on a fall-scented candle or warmer, and just enjoying some seasonal favorites.

But cold weather may also mean gloomy days, too much time inside, and too much time inside your own head. Feelings of loneliness creep in and they can take over your mind.

I use cold weather as a time of year…a season. But it can be anything really. A new or stressful job, a difficult time in a friendship or relationship, a rough time financially. Any stressful time that can be isolating is a “cold weather” season for me.

I can feel myself falling down one of these traps right now.

It’s easy to fall down the hole of self-doubt. It’s easy to fall into the trap of loneliness and gloominess.

When those feelings of loneliness begin to set it…

I want this to be your reminder:

You are valuable.

You are worthy

You are precious.

When you get those feelings of loneliness – that’s what he wants. That’s what Satan wants. He wants you to think that you aren’t valuable, worthy, or precious.

Satan’s #1 goal is (and always has been) to weaken our trust in God. I’m serious…think back to the Garden of Eden…his #1 goal was to weaken Adam and Eve’s trust in God. He tempted them to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil…and he tried to weaken their trust in God.

The serpent’s attempts were subtle (Genesis 3)…but gradual.

Isn’t that what he still does today?

It begins with one thing…one sublte thing. And then the next thing you know, you’re isolated, lonely, and in a deep spiral of self consciousness, self-doubt, and even self-loathing. I fall prey to this trap too…more times then I would like to admit. And I begin to question everything.

But that’s what the devil wants. When I begin to question everything, he gets me to question my identity as well.

You are valuable.

You are worthy.

You are precious.

God created you and He has a purpose.

You have a purpose.

When you fall for this trap too, I encourage you to TRY to do what I TRY to do…

Read the Word of God…and if you need a quick taste of it, this is one of my favorites…

{Psalm 139: 13, 14}

“You formed my inmost being; you knit me in my mother’s womb.

I praise you, because I am wonderfully made; wonderful are your works!

My very self you know.”

Know your worth…and don’t let anyone treat you like you aren’t worthy.
